School Board Holds Special Session Tuesday

The Bourbon School Board held a special session on Tuesday night to hear presentations from three architect and engineering firms.

Porter Berendzen & Associates, KRJ and Facility Solutions Group were each scheduled a block of time to give a presentation and take questions from the board members on their plans for projects at the district.

Bourbon can float more than $2 million in bonds in next April’s election and the language must be submitted for the ballot by January.

Following the presentation, the board could vote to authorize negotiations and move into closed session.

In previous bond issues, the district has worked with KRJ.

The board last issued a bond in 2014 for $2.1 million. The no-tax issue allowed for the construction of a new entrance to the building at the high school and complete overhaul of the hub.

As part of the district’s One to One Technology Initiative, the library was renovated and received a multi-functional space.

A new art room was constructed in the hub and a large instructional space was created that also is utilized by the school board for meetings.

An additional hallway and classroom also were added.

At the elementary school, the bond helped create two new classrooms.
