Council Approves Promotion, Ordinance Tuesday Night

The Sullivan City Council met in open session on Tuesday, March 5 where it approved the promotion of Sullivan School Resource Officer Jack Allen to sergeant and approved an ordinance moving forward with a contract to provide additional improvement to the Sullivan Route 66 Splash Park.

The council had no requests or petitions before them and under Planning and Zoning, the council was informed that a public hearing will be held on Tuesday, March 12 to hear citizen input regarding a request from Sullivan School District to rezone the former Sullivan Library facility, 104 West Vine from a C-2 zoning to R-1 zoning in order to allow for an additional education facility.

The school district purchased the former library facility from the City of Sullivan several months ago with plans to renovate the facility for additional education programs.

Under ordinances, the council unanimously approved Ordinance 3833, sponsored by Alderman Mark Dalton, to approve a 30-day contract with Ed Laubinger Excavating, St. Clair, in the amount of $16,101.50 to install city provided aluminum fencing, installation of city-provided benches and construction of a concrete ring and bench pads at Sullivan Route 66 Splash Park.

Under Mayor Input, Mayor Dennis Watz stated that some citizens have expressed gratitude for the city purchasing the golf course.

The council did go into closed session with one matter of personnel discussed.

The council approved the promotion of Sullivan School Resource Office Jack Allen to patrol sergeant at a pay grade of 13(3) or $23 per hour.

The promotion will become effective once a replacement is made to fill Allen’s school resource officer position at Sullivan Schools.
