Audit Of Collector’s Office Will Be Costly To County

Crawford County officials revealed on Tuesday that the cost of the mandatory state audit triggered by Pat Schwent’s resignation as collector would cost between $25,000 to $30,000.

County Clerk John Martin said they will have to dip into the stabilization fund to cover the costs.

Former Assessor Kerry Summers sat in for part of the commission meeting and asked if officials knew how much it would cost. 

Summers said he was worried about the effect it would have on general revenue and asked if there was any way to recoup the expense from the tax maintenance fund.

“Part of the problem is we don’t know how much is in the fund,” Martin said.
