Sullivan Dominates Union In FRC Opener

Addison Purvis and Morgan Bobbit homered, Purvis threw a no-hitter and Sullivan picked up an 8-0 win over Union Tuesday at Bank of Sullivan Ballpark in their Four Rivers Conference opener.

Sullivan (8-2) continued to rake and the Lady Eagles are averaging nearly 10 runs per game. Purvis hit her fourth home run of the year, matching her total from all of 2016.

On the rubber, Purvis struck out 13 batters and never let the ball reach the outfield. Her only blemish was a walk in the sixth inning.

Purvis’ towering shot came in the second inning with the Lady Eagles up 2-0. Bobbitt followed in the third with a two-out, opposite field solo homer to right.

Sullivan pelted Union’s Kelsie Hardester with two runs in the first, two in the second, one in the third, two in the fourth and one in the sixth.

Purvis took second base on a dropped pop fly in center with one out in the first. Reagan Thomure was sent in as a courtesy runner and scored on a double by Hannah Cox. Kamryn Lohden reached on an error at first. Hanna Johanning doubled to drive in Cox and give Sullivan a 2-0 lead.

Emma Weirich led off the second with a bunt single. She scored on Purvis’ home run to center and Sullivan took a 4-0 lead.

Hardester retired the first two batters she saw in the third, but Bobbitt drilled a pitch over the fence in right center to make it 5-0 Sullivan.

In the fourth, Weirich again led off with a bunt single. She scored all the way from first on a single by Kloey Blanton for a 6-0 lead. Purvis drove in Blanton with a base hit to right and a 7-0 lead.

With two outs in the sixth, Cox doubled. Amanda Boren was sent in to courtesy run. She scored on a single from Lohden.

Purvis made it look effortless as she blew through Union’s lineup. She struck out the first nine batters she faced. The first ball Union put in play was a bunt from Kaylee Bunch that hung in the air long enough for Emma Weirich to dive forward and make the catch.

Purvis carried a perfect game through the fifth inning without Union getting the ball out of the infield. After carving up Adrianna Trenholm to start the sixth, she walked Victoria Suerig, Union’s only baserunner. Purvis got the next two outs on just four pitches. She rolled into the seventh inning with groundouts of Sydney Eads and Lauren Boyd, then fanned Amanda Downing to complete the no-hitter.
