Villa Ridge Man Accused Of Assaulting Infant

On 05/08/2023, deputies with the Franklin County Sheriff's Office responded to the 100 block of Baker Street in Villa Ridge in reference to an unconscious 9-month-old child.

Upon initial observation, the juvenile sustained bruising to her face. Given the severity of the injuries, the child was airlifted for hospital care in Saint Louis, MO. Detectives responded to the scene and began an investigation. It was learned that the child was under the care of two adult babysitters at the time of the incident.

It was learned from medical staff that the child was suffering from swelling of the brain and that her injuries were not from normal childhood injuries but from forced trauma. While interviewing the suspect, he admitted to having episodes wherein he ‘blacks out’.  He did not remember hitting the child but stated others in the home told him he had while the child was crying.

The child is currently in stable condition and in the care of medical personnel.

On 05/09/2023 charges were applied for, and a warrant was issued, charging Aaron M. Clayton, a 29-year-old male from Villa Ridge, with Assault 1st Degree—Special Victim and Abuse or Neglect of a Child 1st Degree with a bond of $500,000 cash only.
