Two Owensville EMS Workers Injured In Crash On Highway 50

Two Owensville EMS workers were injured Saturday in a crash on Highway 50 in Osage County.

Joshua Opperman, 41, was flown by Lifeline Helicopter to Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur to be treated for serious injuries.

Opperman was driving the ambulance.

He is reportedly stable.

Brett Holtmeyer, 36, Owensville, was the other EMS worker. Holtmeyer was transported by Osage EMS to University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia for moderate injuries.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at 8 p.m.

A 2003 Mercury Sable driven by Benjamin Steinbeck, 19, Linn, was attempting to pass a group of eastbound vehicles and cut in.

He struck a 2013 Dodge Journey, driven by Amber Rose, 32, Belle.

Rose’s vehicle overturned into the path of a 2019 Ford E450 ambulance, driven by Opperman. The ambulance struck Rose’s vehicle.

Both vehicles traveled off the north side of the roadway into a wooded area. 

Steinbeck’s vehicle went off the south side of the road and struck a fence and eventually a wooded area.

Owensville EMS thanked all first responders that assisted on the accident scene.

“We have had an outpouring of support and prayers for  which we are eternally grateful. Both of the crew members were injured and remain hospitalized. Please keep them and their families in your thoughts and prayers,” the Facebook post said.
