Sullivan Man Falls Asleep Behind Wheel, Vehicle Strikes Tree

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said a Sullivan man fell asleep behind the wheel of his vehicle, which struck a tree.

Serious injuries were suffered as a result of the crash.

The accident occurred around 4:10 p.m. on Chapel Hill Road, south of Highway K in Franklin County.

Christopher M. Viehland, 27, was driving a 1998 Chevrolet 1500. The highway patrol said he fell asleep, crossed the center line and went off the left side of the road.

Viehland was wearing a seat belt.

His vehicle had total damage.
