Sullivan Man Charged In Multi-County Pursuit

A Sullivan man has been charged in a multi-county pursuit where he allegedly spat in the face of a Crawford County sheriff’s deputy and threatened to kill another deputy.

Philip Harmon, 47, has been charged with resisting arrest. Charges were sought against Harmon for third-degree assault and possession of drug paraphernalia, but they had not been filed as of Monday.

According to the probable cause statement, a deputy observed Harmon fail to stop at Sappington Bridge Road and Highway D in Sullivan around 6:13 p.m. on Dec. 28.

Harmon was stopped at Highway D and Genevieve Avenue, where he allegedly began yelling at the deputy.

The deputy alleged that he could smell intoxicants coming from Harmon, who also had glassy, watery eyes to go along with slurred speech.

Harmon refused to exit the vehicle and threatened to kill the deputy.

He rolled up his window, locked his doors and after the deputy threatened to break his window, drove away.

Harmon was pursued through Sullivan and into Washington County. He allegedly drove at high rates of speed and was finally stopped by spike strips.

Harmon drove into a ditch along Highway 185 in Washington County and refused to exit his vehicle.

The deputy shattered Harmon’s window and he was removed. He spat in the face of one deputy and continued to resist arrest.

Harmon was taken to Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital to be fit for confinement.

He allegedly continued to act in a belligerent manner. Harmon refused a breath, blood or urine sample.

While in the examination room, he allegedly threatened to kill the deputy again.

Harmon is being held without bond at the Crawford County Jail.
