Steelville Man Seriously Injured After Being Struck By Impaired Driver

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said a Steelville man had serious injuries Thursday night after being struck on Highway 19 by an allegedly impaired driver.

Matthew Gaghen, 40, was flown to Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur.

Darren Brinkley, 34, Steelville, has been arrested for driving while intoxicated and causing the injury of another person.

The highway patrol said Brinkley drove off the road and struck Gaghen about one and a half miles south of Steelville.

Brinkley was uninjured and taken into custody.
