Earlier:

Franklin County Sheriff Steve Pelton announced Monday that a 37-year-old St. Clair man has been arrested in connection with a reported shooting in the 2800 block of New Hope Church Rd., just outside Sullivan, Friday, December 10.

Jason Lee Kerbel, 37, St. Clair has been charged with domestic assault in the first degree, unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm and armed criminal action in Franklin County with bond set at $75,000.

Pelton stated that on Friday a call reported to deputies that a male, identified as Kerbel, shot into her camper trailer that was parked in the driveway, adding that he fled the area in a blue passenger car prior to the deputies’ arrival.

Deputies arrived at the home where the female called and disclosed to them Kerbel’s wife had been staying with her.

The victim believed Kerbel’s actions were intended to hurt or kill his wife. The caller said she was sitting in her living room when she heard gunshots. She went outside and saw Kerbel getting into a car while holding a gun.

The vehicle was reported to be driven by another white male.

Other people were at the residence at the time of the shooting, including two children; however, no one was injured.

Deputies located evidence of the shooting at the scene and surrounding agencies were notified to be on the lookout for Kerbel.

On Sunday, deputies learned that Kerbel was at a location in St. Clair and, as they arrived at the location, they observed Kerbel near a Chevrolet truck.

Deputies ultimately took Kerbel into custody without further incident but did locate two firearms in his possession, including the shotgun believed to have been used in the incident.

Pelton stated that all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
