Screamin’ Eagles Band Takes Grand Champion At Washington Band Festival

Sullivan High School Screamin’ Eagles Band took home multiple awards at the Washington High School Band Festival including the coveted grand champion, Saturday, October 2.

Despite changes in scheduling throughout the day and dodging rain showers the band took home: Outstanding Music, Outstanding Visual, Outstanding Percussion, First In Class and Grand Champion for combined parade and field scores.

There were some 30 high school bands participating in the Washington Band Festival Saturday that battled straight downpours at times but were able to get the event in.

“We were all ecstatic with the performances Saturday and the guard has progressed very, very well in the last three weeks,” said Chuck Moore, Band Director. “We did have to go through several schedule changes Saturday due to the multiple weather issues, but we were able to get through it all and perform very well.”

The SHS Band is led by Moore, Joey Musterman, Assistant Band Director and Natalie Moore, Color Guard Director.

While the band marches in the school colors during the parade portion of festival competitions, sporting the black and gold, the field competition has the band members featuring performance tops that were designed with a full theme by Keith Dunton, Pasadena, Calif. The color guard as well features the performance tops and professional props have also been made for competition.

The festival portion of the parade is entitled, “A Sky Full of Stars,” featuring music composed and arraigned by Steven Vento, who provided material for Chuck Moore for over 21 years. The performance closing includes music of Coldplay with “Sky Full Of Stars.”

The band features “Trooper Salute” as its marching band parade performance.

The SHS Band and Color Guard is comprised of some 78 students at Sullivan High School.
