Pool Project Only Matter Before Council Tuesday Night

The current project to have the Sullivan Municipal Swimming Pool operational by the start of the 2022 swimming season is the only matter currently scheduled before the Sullivan City Council Tuesday night, March 1.

With no requests or petitions before the council and no reports expected from Planning and Zoning, along with Sullivan Regional Airport, the council was scheduled to hear from City Engineer Robert Schaffer regarding the current pool project.

The pool was approved for liner replacement by the council several months ago, with the installation to be performed by RenoSys Corporation, Indianapolis, Ind., in the amount of $98,440.

The company started the pool liner process in replacing the existing liner when they began to take out the existing liner encountering areas of grout failure along the top of the wall and below the guttering system.

Schaffer stated this created an issue with RENOSys Corporation in that they did not want to warranty the new liner for ten years as it could be compromised by the grout failure issues.

Schaffer stated that the first option RenoSys came up with was about a $30,000 change order that was determined to be unacceptable, but a second option in the amount of $13,134 that would provide a fabricated installed custom 1/4’ PVC plate with a bend at the pool to protect the liner.

RenoSys stated that with this improvement or change order they would warranty the liner for 10 years as expected.

Schaffer stated that since encountering the grout failure, RenoSys has held up on the project and without any further delays and approval of the PVC plate, they can return to the project and “hopefully,” have it completed in order to open the pool on time for the 2022 swimming season.

The council is expected to take action on the change order following discussions in one direction or another.

The council did have closed session posted for real estate, litigation and personnel.
