Oak Grove Village Completes $550,000 Sidewalk Project

Oak Grove Village is continuing to move forward with improvement projects within the village with the completion of a $550,000 sidewalk project that covers some 3,300 feet of Springfield Road, now owned by the Village.

Richard Ray, Trustee Chairman and Denise Franklin, Village Clerk, met with the Sullivan Independent News this week to discuss the completion of the project and projects that are planned in the coming years Friday.

According to Ray, over the last several years the village has noticed a large increase in the number of people walking on the side of Springfield Road to the shopping district of the Village. Springfield Road is the former Route 66 and was constructed without shoulders and forced residents to walk in the ditches or on the roadway, both presenting hazards to adults and despicably children.

“We’ve been talking about doing this project for a few years now and we had applied for funding through the East West Gateway Council but they were not going to be able to fund the project for at least two to three years,” said Ray. “When we began our budget process for 2017 last year, we decided that we needed to do this project and the board voted unanimously to move forward.”
