Multiple Candidates File For Crawford County Offices During Opening Week

Multiple candidates have lined up for the August primary election in Crawford County.

Filing for the Tuesday, Aug. 6 election got underway last week. 

The deadline to file for federal, state and county offices is March 26.

Through the first week, the most activity has been for the two road commissioner spots.

District 1 Commissioner Rob Cummings and District 2 Commissioner Jared Boast are up for reelection.

Both commissioners are nearing the end of their second terms, having first been elected in 2016.

So far, Boast is the only one who seeking another four years.

The incumbent, who went unopposed in both the Republican primary and November general election in 2020, has drawn a pair of challengers.

Former District 2 employee Randy Chandler has filed to take on his former boss, while David Gargus also is challenging.

Chandler declared for the election last year, creating a Facebook page where he regularly blasts Boast.

In District 1, Chad Barton and Mark Pfeiffer have filed for the seat. 

The other filings have been incumbents.

Assessor Kellie Vestal, Public Administrator Franky Todd, Sheriff Darin Layman and Coroner Darren Dake have filed for reelection.
