'Justice for Justin' Supporters Stage Protest, March Through Bourbon

Protesters marched through Bourbon on Thursday over the lack of charges filed in the shooting death of Justin King on Nov. 3.

More than a couple dozen protesters, who are seeking "Justice for Justin", marched through the downtown area before returning to the intersection of Old Highway 66 and Pine Street. They chanted along the roadway. Some vehicles honked in support.

Around 3 p.m., the protesters departed for the Crawford County Courthouse in Steelville, where they rallied Nov. 21.

The marches are intended to spur action from the Crawford County Prosecuting Attorney's Office. No charges have been filed against the man who shot King at the Lakewood Mobile Home Park.

Crawford County Sheriff Darin Layman said Nov. 16 that new evidence was being processed and some items were being sent for lab analysis.

An informal case review was conducted with the Crawford County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Layman said that as a result, witnesses would be followed up with and further evidence collected prior to providing the prosecuting attorney’s office with the case again.

Layman asked that any witnesses make themselves available for interviews with investigators.

The sheriff said the case would be presented the following week to Crawford County Prosecutor David Smith for review.

Since that Facebook post by Layman, no updates have been given.

Layman said there would be no more information, comments or press releases regarding the investigation and a statement would come upon completion of Smith's review.
