Hernandez Sentenced To 30 Days In Jail For Capitol Riot

A Sullivan woman was sentenced on Monday to 30 days in jail for her role in the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the United States Capitol.

U.S. District Judge James E. Boasberg sentenced Emily Hernandez, 22.

Hernandez was seen holding a broken sign of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Hernandez told Boasberg that her uncle, William Merry, had invited her to see former President Donald Trump speak that day.

Hernandez wanted to sightsee, but said Merry “wouldn’t allow it.”

Merry and his friend, Paul Scott Westover, also were sentenced.

Boasberg gave them 45 days in jail.

All three must pay $500 in restitution for damage to the Capitol building.

Hernandez and Merry must perform 80 hours of community service.

Hernandez also faces charges in a fatal wrong-way crash on Interstate 44 in January that left a St. Clair woman dead and her husband severely injured.

The Post-Dispatch reported that Hernandez’s attorney asked for a delay until June 15 to report to jail so the charges could be resolved.
