Emergency Well Repair Item Only Issue Before Council Tuesday

The Sullivan City Council has a very brief agenda before them scheduled Tuesday, with no requests or petitions, no reports and no ordinances with only one matter seeking board input.

Sullivan City Administrator J.T. Hardy was to present a letter to council members regarding City Well Five, which had to be removed from service in the city on Nov. 20.

Hardy reported to the council, “On Nov. 20, Water Commissioner Kent Koch informed me that the City of Sullivan Well Five, located on Edgewood, had been removed from service due to a mechanical failure. Well Five is responsible for producing water for the City of Sullivan on a daily basis. "Commissioner Koch informed me that he took immediate action to investigate and determine the necessary actions to restore well five to service. It was determined that the well pump needed to be replaced.

Due to the dependence on this well to maintain an adequate water supply, we have authorized the repair work. The cost of the repairs was $14,563.”

Hardy went on to remind the council that in October the city had to replace a pump on Well Six at a cost of $28,060.58 and with this repair the total is $42,623.58. The emergency well pump budget is $25,000 for Fiscal Year 2018.

Hardy added that a budget adjustment may need to be made to correct this outstanding item.

The council was expected to appoint and alderman to review the monthly bills and closed session was posted for real estate, litigation and personnel at press time.
