Bourbon Man Charged With Kidnapping

Steelville Police arrested a Bourbon man Sept. 9 who allegedly restrained a woman and wouldn’t allow her to answer the door for an officer.

Vincent Koby Smith has been charged with third-degree kidnapping.

According to the probable cause statement, officers were dispatched to an apartment in Steelville for a burglary in progress.

The victim reached out to another party and advised them to call 911 because Smith was beating on her apartment door.

Police did not find anything suspicious when they arrived. The reporting party yelled into an open window, then an officer observed a female walk into the hallway.

The female was instructed to open the front door. When asked if there was anyone else in the home, she nodded yes, but did not speak.

Three officers entered the residence and located Smith. Smith later became irate and told officers he did nothing wrong.

He was placed into custody.

Smith told officers he didn’t answer the door because “he was scared.”

The victim said Smith did not live there, but that he stayed there approximately 10 times in the last 30 days.
