Annexation Request Among Items Handled By Council Tuesday

The Sullivan City Council met on Tuesday, July 5, with one request from Sullivan Chamber of Commerce, annexation request from 300 Emma Lane, awarding a bid on new light poles and fixtures for Sullivan Electric Department and approval of an ordinance for repaving of Sullivan Golf Course Parking Lot.

Shawna Speaks, chamber director, submitted a temporary street closure request for the Dinner on Main St. event set for Thursday, September 22, from 3:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.; however, the council opted to postpone action on the event because they were uncertain if stores along North Clark to Taylor would know that they would not be open to traffic from 12-3:30 p.m.

Under Standing Committee Reports, Planning and Zoning informed the council they would have a public hearing on July 12, at 6 p.m. on recommendations to modify existing building codes to make changes to the Land Use Regulations Permissible Uses Table to allow for an indoor shooting range.

Planning and Zoning also will review a request from C&H Properties for a minor subdivision plat that would consolidate Dunigans Addition Lots One and Two, 251 South Park and 709 Dunigan from two lots into one lot.

A third item was a voluntary request for annexation of property at 300 Emma Lane for a new meat processing facility. The property uses in the past with Missouri DNR have been resolved and the new owners of the facility would like to request annexation into the city. The city has already agreed to provide three-phase electricity to the facility. Crawford Electric opted not to service this facility due to their lines being too distant from the property. Sullivan’s was much closer.

The council had no objections to annexing the property.

The council approved a bid from Harry Cooper Supply, Springfield, in the amount of $35,553.30 for the purchase of 15 light fixtures and 15 light poles with a delivery time of eight to ten weeks.

Mayor Dennis Watz reported that he has received some requests regarding raising the speed limit on Watson Road, which is currently 25 mph.

The council expressed some concerns on this due to a lack of sidewalks in the area.

The council approved Ordinance 3955, which approved a 30-day contract with Midstate Paving, Sullivan, to repair and repave Sullivan Golf Course Parking Lot in the amount of $29,650.

The mayor and aldermen reported a strong outlook for the 2022 Meramec Community Fair and positive comments on the Fireworks Display on July 3 as well.

The council did go into closed session for one matter of personnel, with Austin Bartle being hired as a semi-skilled laborer with the Water and Sewer Department.
