Sullivan Man Charged With Aggravated DWI

A Sullivan man with three previous convictions for driving while intoxicated was arrested Dec. 15 after he was stopped on Highway 19 in Steelville.

James Kennedy, 58, has been charged with aggravated DWI. 

Kennedy was convicted for DWI offenses in June 2014, October 2016 and April 2022.

According to the probable cause statement, Kennedy walked past a deputy with the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office at Mobil around 3:30 a.m. smelling of alcohol.

He was observed leaving a vehicle headed towards Highway 19. The deputy followed him, noting he was driving 40 mph in a 60 mph zone.

Kennedy also allegedly failed to drive in a single lane.

He was stopped near Lindberg Road. The deputy alleges he had slurred speec
