Man Pleads Guilty In Assault Sparked By Road Rage
A former Bourbon man pleaded guilty May 15 to an August 2021 assault that left a woman paralyzed on one side of her body.
Joseph Voisey, 37, was charged with first-degree assault in the Aug. 17, 2021 attack on Jamie Peters, but pleaded to a lesser charge of second-degree assault.
He is due to be sentenced July 18 before Judge Michael Randazzo. Second-degree assault is punishable by up to seven years in prison.
Voisey was scheduled to go to trial beginning Monday, June 5.
The assault left Peters unable to use her left arm and leg.
A portion of her skull was removed due to the attack.
Past reports incorrectly said that Peters was temporarily paralyzed.
The assault happened at Cedar and Pine Streets around 6:50 a.m.
Witnesses said Voisey chased Peters into town from Highway JJ.
Voisey went nearly three months before law enforcement was able to bring him to custody.
Peters’ family members did an independent inquiry to identify him as the suspect.
Cellular phone data, GPS location data and Voisey’s employment time records were used by law enforcement to develop him as the suspect.
Detectives contacted Voisey on Oct. 7, 2021. He did not deny involvement, but declined to say anything about the incident.
Voisey was finally arrested in November 2021.
