FHA Discontinues Using BRO Funds For Low Water Crossings
The Crawford County Commission on Tuesday was informed through a letter by the Missouri Department of Transportation that replacing low water crossings with bridge replacement funds is now allowed by federal law.
MoDOT wrote that it had been informed of this change by the Federal Highway Administration.
The Off-system Bridge Replacement and Rehabilitation Program (BRO) uses federal transportation funds to repair bridges throughout Missouri.
Commissioners are currently using BRO funds to replace a low water crossing on Thurman Lake Road, northwest of Steelville.
As a result of the changes, MoDOT outlined the following:
-Request of replacement for low water crossings will not be granted;
-There will be no soft match’;
-Any previous requests submitted to MoDOT but not yet approved will not be granted;
-Previously earned soft match credits for low water crossings will remain in the balance of the county or city; and
-Active BRO funds will be allowed to continue.
