Crawford County Sales Tax Posts 19 Percent Gain

Crawford County’s general revenue sales tax posted a year-over-year gain for the third straight month.

The county collected $209,895.71 for February, which was up 19.9 percent from February 2022.

Last year, the county collected just $174,947.85, a tally that was blamed on snowy weather that kept people mostly indoors.

February’s surge continues to provide strong revenues for the county as 2023 unfolds.

General revenue was up 3.5 percent for December and 26 percent for January.

The total is the second-largest February haul the county has brought in, falling shy of the $220,792.14 that was brought in two years ago.

That came on the heels of stimulus checks issued by the federal government.

Through the first three months of 2023, Crawford County has already brought in $650,869.75.

At this point in 2022, the county had collected $563,060.30.

With revenues already up nearly $100,000 more, the county looks on track to either meet or eclipse last year’s $2.6 million tally.

The capital improvement and law enforcement sales taxes are separate.

Both were up 22 percent for February.

The funds collected $100,193.50, up from just over $82,000 for February 2022.

Overall, the collection has been up 2.2 percent for December and 26.4 percent for January. The county has collected more than $310,000 for each account.
