County Population Declines Since 2020

Crawford County’s population has declined since 2020, according to data by the United States Census Bureau. 

From April 1, 2020 to July 1, 2023, census data estimates that the county has lost around 300 residents.

Crawford County had an estimated population of 22,719 in 2023.

The population had a slight uptick from 2022 to 2023.

The Census estimates the county had 22,659 residents in 2022.

Overall, the population has declined 1.5 percent since the decennial census in 2020.

Going back to the 2010 Census, the county is down nearly 2,000 residents.

Crawford County’s estimated population was 24,696 in 2010.

Nearby Franklin County has grown year-over-year. 

Census data shows the county’s population was 104,689 in 2020, added close to 200 more residents in 2021, another 500 residents in 2022 and 700 residents in 2023.

The county’s population is estimated at 106,404 as of July 1, 2023.

State

Missouri has seen its population barely grow since 2020. 

The Census estimated the state’s population at 6,154,913 in 2020 and 6,196,156 in 2023.

That comes out to 0.7 percent.

The population added fewer than 20,000 residents between 2022 and 2023.

Many counties throughout the state saw a population growth from 2022 to 2023, even a slight one, but several are seeing their population decline.

Counties near the Bootheel, central, northwest and northeast regions did not see any growth.

DeKalb, New Madrid and Pemiscot counties all saw their populations decline by more than 3 percent.
