County Commissioner Hits Back At Criticism Over Real Estate Purchases
Crawford County District 2 Commissioner Jared Boast said that he doesn’t regret real estate purchases the county has made for the coroner’s office since 2020.
Over the last several months, Boast and District 1 Commissioner Rob Cummings have repeatedly faced criticisms on two of the purchases.
A garage — referred to as the Korte building — on Highway 19 in Cuba was purchased for $146,000 in December 2020.
Almost two years later, the county purchased what is known as the Tutterow building for around $400,000.
Less than six months later, the commission purchased the former Three Rivers Publishing building. That building has been settled as the next spot for the coroner's office.
The county has put the Korte building on the market. How the Tutterow building will be utilized has yet to be determined.
The new coroner's office is nearly complete, putting an end to a process that goes back to 2017.
Boast said he stands by all of those purchases and that each of them made sense at the time.
