City Under Boil Order During Duration Of Water Project

The city of Bourbon has issued a boil water order during the duration of its water line upgrade on Pine Street.

Residents, businesses and schools have been notified and the order — issued Thursday — could last around two weeks.

The order is due to low pressure, which could allow contamination to enter the system by backflow or back-siophonage.

Once sample results indicate no bacterial contamination is present, the order will be lifted.

People with severely compromised immune systems, infants and some elderly may be at-risk and should seek advice about drinking water from their health care providers.

Residents should boil water vigorously for three minutes prior to use. Use only for drinking, brushing teeth, diluting juices and other food preparation. Use of bottled water may be a feasible alternative to boiling tap water.

Do not use ice from a household icemaker or any ice made with unboiled water.

Disinfect dishes and other contact surfaces by immersion for at least one minute in tap water that contains one teaspoon of unscented household bleach per gallon of water.
