Bourbon Woman Charged In DWI Crash Injuring Juvenile Passenger
A Bourbon woman was charged May 28 in a suspected DWI crash that injured a juvenile passenger.
Alana Helton, 25,has been charged with DWI — physical injury, first-degree endangering the welfare of a child, leaving the scene of an accident — physical injury and misdemeanors for failure to drive on the right half of the road and driving an unregistered vehicle.
The crash happened March 31 on Highway J in Bourbon.
A 3-year-old female was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The probable cause statement said the juvenile had braising, abrasion and swelling around the left eye.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Helton failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle went off the road, struck a sign post and came to a rest on the shoulder.
The probable cause statement said Helton blew a .217 percent on the breathalyzer test.
The highway patrol allegedly seized three “airplane” bottles of Jim Beam in the pocket of her work apron.
