After Exchanging Middle Fingers, Man Fires Gun At Passerby

A Bourbon man who flipped off a passerby and was given the middle finger in exchange, allegedly pulled out a handgun and fired in the victim’s direction.

Charles Hendon, 59, has been charged with armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon (shooting at person/motor vehicle) and unlawful use of a weapon (intoxicated with a loaded weapon).

Hendon blew a .08 on a breathalyzer test.

According to the probable cause statement, the incident occurred March 22 on Christy Mine Road.

The victim said they were driving to an address on the road and passed by Hendon’s residence. Hendon gave them the finger, so the victim gave the finger back.

Hendon allegedly grabbed a gun and shot it in the victim’s direction.

A Crawford County sheriff’s deputy went to Hendon’s home. A handgun was observed on his right side in a holster.

The deputy knocked on the door and Hendon went into the back room. He came to the door without the gun.

Hendon, who was holding a can of beer and had glassy, bloodshot eyes, showed the deputy the gun. He admitted that he flipped off the passerby and was flipped off in return. Hendon said he threw a firecracker at the vehicle. He also said that he had not fired a gun in several days.

Hendon allegedly told the deputy he would “find (the victim) and (whoop) their (expletive) back to the city.”

Hendon on April 5 was released from jail on a surety bond. He is due to appear in court on Thursday, April 25.
