Washington Teen Dies From COVID-19 Complications
The Washington School District announced Sunday night that a middle school student died from COVID-19 complications.
Peyton Baumgarth, 13, is the youngest Missouri resident to die from the virus.
Washington Superintendent Dr. Lori VanLeer issued a statement Sunday night announcing Baumgarth’s death.
“We are saddened to learn of the passing of Peyton Baumgarth,” VanLeer wrote in an email sent to parents and staff: “We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the family.”
“The family asks that we all remember to wear masks, wash hands frequently and follow guidelines,” VanLeer said. “COVID-19 is real, and they want to remind students and parents to take these precautions in and outside of school.
According to the Washington Missourian, Baumgarth’s last day of attendance was Oct. 22. The district was notified of his quarantine on Monday, Oct. 26.
New Cases
Franklin County reported 44 new cases on Monday, surpassing 3,000 cases.
The total is now 3,040.
The 10-day rolling total is 514 and the 14-day average of new cases is 45.36.
Testing positivity rose to 7.47% and over the last 14 days it is 14.92%.
The number of cases in long-term care facilities rose to 101 and hospitalizations are 13.
