Residents Irate Over City’s Response To Sewer Odor

Two Bourbon residents addressed the city council on Tuesday over a sewer odor that has polluted their home for more than a year.

The residents -- Bill Kelley and Miryha Hartung -- said they asked the city a year ago to fix the issue and they have been frequently contacting Mayor Dave Lafferty, but can't get a response back.

City officials defended their response and said there is no overnight fix, but the couple were not looking for that.

They feel the city isn't taking the problem seriously and they are being disrespected.

“We’re trying,” said Lafferty, who told them it has been a problem before any of the current council members were seated. “I’m sorry it wasn’t addressed when it should have been.”
