Resident Looking To Set Up Memorial For Skaggs
Bourbon resident Phyillis Arnette wants to have a memorial set up for the late Danny Skaggs, who served as mayor from 2014 until his passing in September 2019.
Arnette wants to place a stone memorial at Sites Park, located at the corner of Pine and Elm streets.
However, a fountain is planned for the park and a memorial to Skaggs might not work there.
Arnette has been working to collect money for a plaque, but she received more money than anticipated.
With a bit more money, a stone memorial could be made.
“It would be no money out of the city’s pocket,” Arnette said to the council on May 18.
Ward 1 Alderwoman Margie Brine asked if there memorials set up for past mayors.
Arnette said there wasn’t, but that Skaggs “worked until the day he died” and that his death was on the job.
“He was born and raised here and a lot of people in this town want to honor him,” she said.
Skaggs, 63, died Sept. 12, 2019
