Park Board Gives Update On Equipment, Facilities

Steve Pasch, president of the Bourbon Park Board, gave city council members an update July 20 on equipment, plans for facilities and lighting at the basketball court.

Pasch promised that they would be doing a better job of keeping the council “in the loop” on their activities.

“We know you need to be more informed and we need to be transparent,” Pasch said.

Pasch said equipment had been delivered to the park that the council did not know about.

“We apologize,” he said.

Two new musical instrument pieces of equipment have been set up at the park.

Court Lighting

An issue dating back to last fall has hopefully been settled.

Vandals were turning the basketball court lights on after they automatically shut off at 9 p.m.

Even when city workers found ways to make it more secure, vandals were still able to turn them back on.

The lights would stay on all night.

Council members insist on the lights turning off at 9 p.m. and adhering to that curfew.

“There’s a chain fence around the lights now,” said Pasch, adding that a mechanism has been added to manually turn them back on.

Pasch said the park board is happy to see people using the misting station and courts.

Clean-Up

Pasch also addressed cleaning up the pavilions after they have been rented out.

He indicated that renters have been leaving behind trash and fecal matter in the bathrooms, some of it that lands on the walls.

“The city workers are cleaning it up and the people renting it out need to show them some respect,” he said. “They are cleaning feces off the wall. It’s ridiculous.”

Pasch said they want to fix the rental agreement to solve issues like that.
