Murder Suspect Still At-Large

One of three people charged in the Feb. 1 murder of a Union man at Cuba’s Hood Park is still at-large.

Daeshawn Brandon, born 2001, had a warrant issued for his arrest March 29.

Law enforcement has yet to bring Brandon in, while two other men charged in the shooting are awaiting hearings.

Malik Brandon, 24, Belleville, and Maurice Williams, 22, Branson, are in custody.

Both have had their motions for bond reduction denied.

They are scheduled to appear before Judge Patrick Horsefield on June 9 for a preliminary hearing.

Malik, Daeshawn and Williams are accused of killing Mister Zombie Halferty, 33.

All three face first-degree murder charges, along with two counts of armed criminal action, one count of first-degree assault and first-degree attempted robbery.

The three men were allegedly purchasing marijuana from Halferty late that night.

Surveillance video acquired from Hood Park security cameras show a “dark figure” approach the driver’s side of Halferty’s vehicle and three muzzle flashes go off.

Gunshots can be heard.

The vehicle leaves, but returns approximately two minutes later.

Approximately eight more shots are fired into the vehicle.

When interviewed by detectives, Williams claimed that Halferty told him to sit in his vehicle, then pulled out a handgun and pointed it at him.

Williams alleges that Malik and Daeshawn exited their vehicle. He accused Halferty of pointing the gun at Daeshawn, who returned fire.

Williams said he drove away, but was told to go back.

He told detectives that Daeshawn shot Halferty several more times.

The three men went back to Sullivan and abandoned their vehicle at a church on Highway WW.

The plates had been removed, but law enforcement traced the VIN back to Malik.
