Man Due In Court Over Assault Sparked By Road Rage

A Bourbon man accused of assaulting a woman and partially paralyzing her following an alleged road rage incident in August is due in court Dec. 9.

Joseph Voisey, 35, is scheduled to appear before Judge Patrick Horsefield at the Crawford County Courthouse. It will be a preliminary hearing.

Voisey is accused of striking Jamie Peters on Aug. 17. He has been charged with first-degree assault.

Peters suffered a serious head injury and a portion of her skull was removed. She was in the hospital for more than 80 days. Her left side remains partially paralyzed.

The incident occurred at Cedar and Pine Streets in Bourbon around 6:50 a.m.

Peters was found disoriented and transported to a St. Louis area hospital.

Witnesses alleged that Voisey struck Peters. One witness claimed they saw Voisey following, or chasing, Peters’ vehicle on Highway JJ as he traveled towards Bourbon.

A surveillance video confirmed the witness’ report.

Additional surveillance video from a convenience store showed Voisey’s car passing by just after the time of the assault.

Cellular phone data, GPS location data and Voisey’s employment time records were all evaluated to assist in developing him as the suspect.

Peters’ family members conducted an independent inquiry and initially identified him.

Voisey was contacted by detectives on Oct. 7. He did not deny involvement, but declined to speak with detectives when asked about the assault.

Voisey has been released on bond. He has pleaded not guilty.

If convicted, Voisey could face 10 to 30 years in prison.
