Living In Retirement Group Tours Bourbon

The article published in the Oct. 23 issue of the Independent News contained several misspellings. We apologize for not catching these errors.

It Happened September 25, 2024, in Bourbon, Mo.

The Bourbon Economic Development Group hosted a bus tour of Bourbon and the surrounding area. The tour included visits to Imperial, Half-Crocked Antiques, Bourbon Café and Coffee Saloon, and The Luthiery, along with discussions about the history of Bourbon, the foothills of the Ozark Mountains, and how Blue Spring Creek is fed by four springs that provide water to the Meramec River. It was also noted that Blue Spring Creek holds one of Missouri’s Blue Ribbon Trout Slam honors.

Participants had the opportunity to browse and shop in all the featured businesses. We appreciate the businesses that are normally closed on Wednesdays but opened their doors to welcome visitors to our town.

Thank you to the following businesses for helping to provide dinner for the group: Town Tavern, Bourbon Café and Coffee Saloon, Via’s Pizza, Town & Country Deli, Country Skillet Café, Figo’s, and Planet Sub. Their efforts made the "Savor all the Flavors of Bourbon" dining experience a success.

Lavernne Culver was a guest speaker and did a wonderful job sharing her experiences growing up in Bourbon. We’d also like to thank Bourbon RV Center, Bourbon Cyclery, CDR Naturals, Peoples Bank, Town & Country Bank, and the BEDG group for contributing door prizes. Everyone left the event with a memento to remind them of Bourbon.

The group visit was organized by Living in Retirement, based in Jefferson City, Missouri. The purpose was to “show off” Bourbon and the surrounding area, encouraging visitors to return and learn more. According to evaluations by Living in Retirement, the participants were very satisfied with the experience. With that said, perhaps we can host another tour in a couple of years.
