County Treasurer Sounds Off On Commission, Clerk

Treasurer Karen Sikes on Tuesday voiced her frustration with the Crawford County Commission and Clerk John Martin.

Sikes’ comments came after she brought up an article published a week earlier in Three Rivers Publishing about a payroll error she made during Thanksgiving weekend.

Thirty-eight out of 100 employees were either overpaid, underpaid or not paid at all, while three people no longer with the county received payment.

While Sikes corrected the error and said it was her mistake, she was unhappy with the way her mistake was covered. She had a printed copy of the article in hand.

The Independent News published an article on the payroll mistake, but it had not rolled off the presses by that point.
