County Revenue Nosedives For April
Crawford County’s general revenue took a sharp dive for April.
The county collected $144,145.49, a 33 percent fall year-over-year and the least amount collected since February 2020.
Last year, the county collected $215,781.60, which was a new record for April.
County Treasurer Karen Sikes said she has been researching why the number was so low and believes it could be an anomaly.
Sikes said a new law took effect at the end of March where no county sales tax is collected for vehicles purchased out of state.
“That was not the only thing that affected the low number from last month, though, so we should be okay for May,” Sikes said.
Before the most recent report, sales tax revenue had been up year-over-year from December through March.
The county saw an increase of 3.5 percent for December, 26 percent for January, 19 percent for February and 4 percent for March.
The county remains on a similar trajectory from last year, with revenues about equal at the same point on the calendar.
So far through 2023, Crawford County has brought in $1,027,329.10.
