County Out Of BRO Funds Until 2025
It will be 2025 before Crawford County will be eligible again for Bridge Replacement and Rehabilitation (BRO) funds.
BRO uses federal transportation funds to repair bridges throughout the state.
Counties are allocated by the Missouri Department of Transportation.
As of Feb. 29, 2020, the county had -$169,881.58.
Its fiscal year 2020 allocation was $79,637.78.
Counties are able to borrow up to three years of future allocations for engineering or one year of future allocation for construction.
The county must now wait for its funds to replenish.
District 1 Foreman Danny Brown said Tuesday that the county has fixed a lot of bridges.
“In the last four to five years, we have — on this side (of the county) — we have went after $2 million in funding,” he said. “That’s $2 million that didn’t cost taxpayers (here) a dime. We’ve done a lot.”
The county can still pursue grants through the United States Forestry Service.
Brown also said there is a plan to have all five of the crossings over the Huzzah River replaced, “if things stay like they are supposed to.”
Brown said the crossings would be done through forestry funds and the county’s portion would be in-kind labor.
