County Expediting Heating Project At Courthouse

Crawford County is moving quickly on a project that will provide heating at the courthouse.

The county is using Juergens Heating & Cooling to install a splitter system.

Clerk John Martin said Tuesday half of the down payment was required to purchase the materials.

Martin said the heating units at the courthouse are “defunct” and offices are reduced to using space heaters.

The split system will give each office more control over the heat and a thermostat.

“We need to get the project knocked out in the next month,” Martin said.

Martin also said an electrician is needed to look at “ancient, ancient” wiring that is strewn through the walls of the courthouse.

Using space heaters is overloading the recoils.

Commissioners were later questioned by a resident who asked if projects like this were put out to bid.

Martin said anything over $12,000 is typically up for bid, but in the case of an emergency, like the lack of heating, the county can waive that and make a direct hire.
