Commission Putting Freeman Building Remodel On Hold

Crawford County commissioners are putting the remodel for the Freeman building on hold until early next year.

Commissioners received only one bid for the remodel, which came from Kevin Britton.

His bid was around $48,000.

County Clerk John Martin entered the Oct. 11 meeting and delivered what he said was a “stop spending money” speech.

The county has incurred unforeseen costs due to storms during the summer, which caused roof and electrical damage.

Martin said they won’t receive reimbursement for some of the damage.

Tax money also is down, “but not alarmingly so” Martin added.

There are several projects on the hook, but two are not budgeted or paid for.

The clerk suggested putting the projects off until March or April. Even February would be better, Martin said, but 2023 “is a no go.”

Presiding Commissioner Steve Black said he would reach out to Britton and see if it that was feasible.

The Freeman remodel will be comprehensive.
