City Proposing $1.6 Million Budget

The city of Bourbon is proposing a $1.6 million budget for the 2021-22 fiscal year.

This includes:

$324,460 for city hall;

$10,000 for the municipal court;

$368,615 for the police department;

$175,050 for the street department;

$45,500 for the park department;

$306,105 for the water department; and,

$392,035 for the sewer department.

According to the budget notes from City Clerk Cathy Bremer, the budget should have all Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds from the Pine Street project completed prior to the new fiscal year beginning.

If not, Bremer said the remaining funds will be added back into the budget.

The city has budgeted a $1 monthly increase for trash services per customer.

Bremer told the council on June 10 there has not been a price increase in five years.

The trash rate will go from $14.50 per month to $15.50 per month.

A three-year contract will go out for bid in December and become effective in February 2022.

Bremer said it is possible that another increase would be needed.

The city sold two parcels of property in the industrial park for the fiscal year ending in June, but Bremer wrote that she did not budget the sale of property for the upcoming year.

She said the board may amend this if more property is sold.

Funds from any sale are placed in capital improvements.

A 3% cost-of-living allowance was included for all full-time employees.

Health insurance will increase approximately 5%.

The city was scheduled to meet again on Tuesday for their regular meeting and hold a final budget hearing on Thursday.
