BHS Students Eligible For ECC Early College Academy In 2023-24

Beginning next school year, students at Bourbon High School will be eligible to enroll in East Central College’s Early College Academy.

ECA can replace or supplement the junior and senior years of high school.

Students are enrolled in a curriculum of all college courses taught by ECC instructors and upon completion, can earn an associate’s degree and high school diploma.

ECA began in 2020 with students from Union High School, but it opened up to St. Clair, Sullivan and Washington students in 2021.

Bourbon and Cuba students are in next in line.

Students apply for ECA during their sophomore year of high school. It requires a 2.5 GPA or higher and ACT/SAT and ECC Accuplacer college-ready scores.

An exemplary record of discipline and attendance, a personal statement and signed agreement to abide by expectations and responsibilities are also required.

Students will be responsible for their own transportation, must follow ECC’s academic calendar and must be in attendance for all classes.

The school district covers the tuition, fees and books each semester, but students must return books. Personal items, such as tools or uniforms, must be purchased by the student and/or parents.

Students must maintain a “C” or better in all classes and may return to their respective high school for extracurricular activities.

Students that participate in sports must attend a class at the high school campus.

ECC will provide all the same resources offered to other college students.

Students who fail or don’t complete the two-year program must repay all tuition and fees.
