Sullivan Eagles Steal Salem’s Thunder
The Eagles (12-5) ran up five scores over the Class 4 District 4 leaders, Salem (13-2), on Tuesday, Apr. 23. Despite Sullivan’s early success, their parade was rained out with a lightning delay in the top of the 3rd.
Sullivan’s thunder rumbled in the top of the 2nd. As the Eagles had two outs on the board, Dylan Parker found lightning in a bottle and struck down the first score on Nolan Ulrich’s fly ball double. Right afterward, Landen Doza would do the same hit at-bat, driving Ulrich and Gavin Schmidt to storm home. Drake Gawer poured a line-drive double to cap off the inning, allowing Chase Blue and Doza to make a 5-0 Sullivan lead.
The Eagles brewed up a storm of 5 RBIs, five hits and five walks with 11 at-bat appearances.
Gawer pitched a no-hitter in his two innings on the mound. He executed five strikeouts and gave up three walks. He also powered two RBIs on two hits at the plate.
The Eagles will start their fight for a back-to-back Class 4 District 4 title in St. Clair on Saturday, May 11.
If Sullivan wins districts, they will play their first state round on Tuesday, May 21.
