Toddler Receives Serious Injuries In Crash

Update: The driver in this crash was arrested on the scene.

The highway patrol said Alana B. Helton, 25, was intoxicated.

Helton has not yet been charged.

A toddler had serious injuries March 31 in a crash on Highway J in Bourbon.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said a 3-year-old female was taken by private vehicle to Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital for treatment.

According to the patrol, the crash occurred when a 2006 Saturn Ion, driven by Alana B. Helton, 25, Bourbon, failed to negotiate a curve.

The vehicle went off the road, struck a sign post and came to a rest on the shoulder.

The toddler was was in a safety device.
