Accused Shooter’s Case Bound Over

The case of a Bourbon man accused of shooting a woman through her car window has been bound over to the circuit court.

Caleb Sappington, 20, has been charged with seven counts stemming from a shooting that occurred Nov. 20 in Bourbon.

Sappington faces three counts of armed criminal action, two counts of first-degree assault, one count of first-degree assault — serious injury and one count of unlawful use of a weapon.

Sappington appeared in court Jan. 11. Judge Patrick Horsefield ruled there was enough evidence that all seven counts in the probable cause statement showed a felony was committed.

Sappington now heads back to court on Feb. 6 at 1 p.m.

According to the probable cause, Sappington shot the victim in the back of the shoulder after she drove down his driveway.

The victim was told to leave and drove away.

Sappington’s mother followed the victim, who flipped her off.

Sappington is accused of grabbing a .243 rifle and firing at the victim.

Law enforcement officers seized the weapon and spent cartridges.

Sappington, who was released on bond Dec. 5, is not allowed to contact the victims or witnesses other than his mother. He has been placed on house arrest.
