Watson’s Florist Makes A Difference In Lives During COVID-19

For the folks at Watson’s Florist, trying to make a difference in the lives of people has always been a part of its business.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, they’ve reached out to make an even bigger difference.

Owner Misty Cason said the floral group she belongs to was discussing ways to assist the community.

“I thought it would be nice to reach out to the nursing homes in our community since they are not receiving visitors and provide some flowers to help boost morale for patients," Cason said. "The nursing homes were very excited about this program and felt it would really help their residents.”

Cason and staff worked on the program through social media. At the start she was "extremely nervous" since it required the delivery of 182 flowers. Her customers and the community came through with donations.

“Those who know me personally, know that it is rare for me to be speechless,” said Cason. “However, I have been at a loss for words with this whole experience. We asked and my goodness did this community deliver. We were able to meet our goal the very next day after announcing the program. The pure overwhelming response and generosity offered have been extremely humbling and we have literally been amazed to the point of tears by the outpouring of love and support. Our community far exceeds the city limits of Sullivan. We had calls from as far away as St. Louis, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Utah, Michigan and Texas.”

Cason stated that the phones are still ringing with individuals and businesses who want to contribute.

The first nursing flower deliveries were done by the business on April 3 and again on Good Friday. The floral shop once again brightened the days of those residents in the nursing home with a flower arrangement, provided all through donations.

Cason stated residents are not only quarantined to the nursing home, but also to their rooms and unable to see family, so this simple gesture has brightened their days.

The program will continue in another direction over the next couple of weeks. Cason said they will be sending flowers to nursing stations and hospitals this coming week and other service businesses in the weeks to come.

“We are trying to spread happiness throughout the community each week and continue the program,” said Cason. “We continue to receive donations that allow us to provide this service to the community.”

Although Watson's showroom is closed at this time, the business remains open and serving customers.

Anyone who would like to make a donation to this ongoing program may contact Watson’s Florist at 573-468-8520.
