The Sullivan School District opened Tuesday morning, August 17, for the 2010-11 school year. Students at Sullivan Elementary were greeted as their parents dropped them off for school by traffic volunteer Gerald Douglas. A back-to-school fair will be held at Cuba Elementary on Thurs., Aug. 5 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Vaccinations will be available.
Free Tdap shots (tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis) may be offered to students that are entering eighth through 12th grade.
Varicella shots will not be offered. Kindergarten students are required to have a second dose prior to enrolling.
A preschool make-up screening will be held on Thurs., Aug. 12 at the Bourbon Elementary campus.

With summer winding down and school just around the corner, Afterschool is currently accepting enrollments. Open to kindergarten through eighth grade Sullivan School District students, Afterschool provides a safe environment for children who might otherwise go home alone until mom or dad get off work. Parents can have peace of mind that their child is being cared for.

The Spring Bluff R-XV School open house will be held on Thurs., Aug. 12 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Students, parents and patrons are welcome. Come meet teachers and staff and tour the school. Renew old acquaintances and make new friends.

Missouri’s back-to-school sales tax holiday begins Fri., Aug. 6 and runs through Sun., Aug. 8.
People making qualified purchases will not have to pay the state’s 4.225 percent sales tax. City, county and other special district sales taxes will also be waived if those entites are participating in the holiday.
In general, qualified items include clothing less than $100, school supplies not exceeding a total of $50 per purchase, and computers and computer accessories less than $3,500.

To say that St. Matthew VBS had a successful mission project would be a real understatemnt.
Not only did the 24 children, a large staff, and some generous adults reach the $1,000 goal (to be matched by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans) for Kids Against Hunger, halfway through VBS they had to call the mission directors, Rev. and Mrs. Rudy Schaser, to ask what else they could use some money for.
