Dear Editor:
No heat. No problem. And just like that, a service technician was en route to just another service call, but this would be a call that we’ve seen too many times.
Upon arriving at the customer’s home, we were led to the portion of the basement that is very seldom remembered unless there is a problem. After removal of the dusty covers, it was evident that the furnace was non-operational, and in need of service. [...]
Dear Editor:
Bullies can come in different sizes and ages - young children, teens, young adults, men and women in their golden years. Bullying usually stems from severe jealousy. Most bullies will concentrate on one person at a time.
The individual tries to create a pack, by working hard at spreading false stories, otherwise known as gossip. They proceed with their plan, trying to pull more people into their circle of abuse by hiding behind them but [...]
Dear Editor:
It has been 45 years or so since I tasted any mincemeat pie. This being the Christmas season, I began to reminisce about the old days when my mom and a close aunt got together during the holidays and bustled around making this very traditional English dessert. It is so traditional with the holiday season; in fact, it is sometimes called “Christmas Pie.”
So, as an engineer and wacky “try anything once” cook all rolled [...]
Dear Editor:
Soon all holders of insurance policies likely will encounter an environment of economic hardship, as the spotlight is focused on the troubled balance sheets of these carriers. Soon, too, policyholders will discover that their policies enjoy nowhere near the safety net available with deposits in banks and savings and loan companies.
The insurance industry is regulated not by the federal government, but by the various states, with generally lax oversight. Many carriers simply are not [...]
Dear Editor:
I recently had the opportunity to spend three (unexpected) days at the Sullivan MO Baptist Hospital. I hadn’t been a patient there since the birth of my children (ages 48, 46, 43 and 32).
I certainly was in for a nice surprise to find a new state-of-the-art, professional hospital. The staff was very efficient and caring. I even really enjoyed the hospital food!
At this special time of the year when we should be counting our [...]
Dear Editor,
Just over a year ago in early August 2010, a routine road trip for an above average central Missouri citizen turned into the worst of scenarios. Daniel Schatz, a Sullivan native returning from an errand for his father, was tragically killed in an automobile accident.
I’m sure all remember that autumn’s tragic day. The dreadful scenes from the afternoon’s events made their way across our television screens. Sunken hearts joined in solemn remorse throughout the [...]
Dear Editor,
Jesus, the most precious name in the world. Jesus, God’s only begotten son. Jesus, who came to earth to take away our sins.
Just think of the love it took for Jesus to leave his magnificent home in heaven and come to earth to live among his creation. The Son of God was born not in a castle among royalty, but he was born in a stable among animals. He could have lived among the [...]

For months now, I have been covering the thefts from unlocked vehicles in the City of Sullivan - more than 65 in the last three months or so - and each time I write these reports, I remind residents to lock their vehicles.
Police state that more often thieves target unlocked vehicles because of their easy access and quick manner in which they can enter the vehicle unlawfully and take what they want and [...]
Dear Editor:
Obama is dropping like a boat anchor in the polls and he refuses to accept good advice from his own people. Who knows, he may single-handedly destroy the Democrat Party. And in its present form, as it is leading us more toward European Socialism, it may be what’s best. Democrat heads must be spinning.
Look for more “boooing of the FLOTUS and POTUS as the election draws closer. He has trashed everything that grassroots America [...]
Dear Editor:
Jim, John, Bob, Sam, KTUI, Eagles, etc.
Oh, what a tremendous meal the Eagles served for the Home Alone, etc. Oh, so good! We should all be thankful and praise God.
Thanksgiving is never remembered. After Halloween comes Christmas, which is awful Christmas songs you hear everywhere.
Sullivan, MO is a great town and the people are always there to help and give. All the organizations are always there.
Everyone bow your heads and say a prayer.
God bless.
