On March 9, 2010, officers from the Crawford County Sheriff’s
Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol shot and killed an
armed suspect, after that person led officers on a pursuit and then
fired a weapon at the officers.
The suspect has been identified as Patrick L. Greer, 29, of Ft.
Worth, Texas. Contact with Greer was initiated on the morning of March

On Mar. 9 the Cuba Police Dept. and the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department received information that a subject wanted on a felony warrant from the state of Texas was in the Cuba area. The suspect was reportedly armed, dangerous, and would shoot at law enforcement officers. The suspect, a white male, was reportedly driving a dark colored, Ford pickup, with a camper and bearing Texas license plates.

The Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management District recently announced the theme for its 2010 poster and trash art contest. This year’s theme is “Be Green! Keep the Planet Clean.”
This is the 18th year that Ozark Rivers has sponsored the contest. Students attending public and private schools in Crawford, Dent, Gasconade, Maries, Phelps, Pulaski or Washington counties are eligible to participate. Home-schooled students in the seven-county area are also encouraged to participate.

Minutes from the Leasburg Board of Trustees meeting on Feb. 1 provide explanation on the board’s utility late fee policy.
It was reported two weeks ago that trustees had established a new policy regarding reconnection and disconnection of the utilities. The policy was posted outside of village hall on Feb. 1.

What began as a subdued start to their 10th wedding anniversary ended with a joyous trip to Jefferson City. Filings opened for county elections last week and two challengers have filed for Presiding Commissioner Ed Worley’s seat.
John Hewkin, Commissioner of District 2 in Crawford County, filed for Presiding Commissioner, as did Leo Sanders.
As of press time, Worley has not filed for reelection. He was selected as Presiding Commissioner in 2003.
Hewkin was appointed to office in 2008.
Associate Probate Circuit Judge Scott Bernstein filed for reelection and is currently unopposed.

Following the Feb. 16 meeting, the Bourbon aldermen agreed to meet for a workshop session held Mar. 2.
The meeting was expected to center around police and court issues that were brought to the board on Feb. 16.
Bourbon police chief, Don Taylor, told the board at that meeting that the department was spending too much money on vehicle maintenance. Taylor estimated that over $14,000 was spent on repairs in the past year.
