Coach Pat Burke, staff and players hosted a junior Eagles football camp last week for students in grades 4-8. The camp was held July 26-28 and focused on the fundamentals. Players also got instruction on passing, punting, blocking, receiving and tackling.

Sullivan’s schedule will look a lot different in 2010.
After getting the bump to Class 4, the Eagles will be grouped with Union, St. Clair and Pacific in districts. Union is a perennial playoff contender and Pacific’s 2009 season was one of the best the team has had in years.
Sullivan will open the season up in Hermann, where they face a Bearcats squad that they dominated 25-7 last August.

Attention, all golfers! On Aug. 21 at Sullivan Country Club, UPS is sponsoring a golf tournament to benefit the United Way of South Central Missouri.
This tournament will benefit over 3,000 people and 22 agencies in the South Central Missouri Region.

The Ninth District Junior Legion All-Stars will play for bragging rights on Saturday night at T.R. Hughes Ballpark when the south meets the north.
Washington Post 218 will be the most represented for the south division. Three players will be in the starting lineup from Post 218.
Jack Kopman will start at third base. Kopman batted .318 for Post 218 and was second on the team with 29 RBIs.

St. Clair Post 347 made a memorable run through the Ninth District Senior Legion Tournament last week, which included victories over Elsberry, St. Charles, Washington, Troy and Daniel Boone.
And they could not have done it without two former Sullivan Eagles on the roster.
Zach Mesey, a 2009 graduate at SHS and a former pitching standout, started two games in the tournament and Jake Durham, a 2010 graduate, started in a stunning victory over Washington [...]

Aug. 9 will be the first day high school teams will be eligible to begin practicing.
Next week’s issue of the Independent News will have schedules for the 2010 fall sports teams.
The 2010 football season will begin for the Eagles on Aug. 27 at Hermann. Sullivan will have big schedule changes this year, including a move up to Class 4 to compete with Union, St. Clair and Pacific in districts.

Little girls camp was held July 12-15. This was the third little girls camp that the high school has held. They want to show appreciation to all the campers who came out and all the help they had from their amazing high school team.
They hope to see everyone in August when their season starts.

Four players from Sullivan’s Post 18 Junior Legion Team will represent the south division in the annual Ninth District All-Star Game on July 31 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark in O’Fallon.
Catcher Matt Jones will start behind the plate for the south.
Jones hit .473 during the 2010 season, leading the team in hits (35) singles (24), doubles (11) and RBIs (24). Jones also led the team in ERA (2.56) and finished with a 4-2 record.

The USA Softball junior men’s national team coaching staff will conduct a players’ camp prior to the start of the ASA Boys National Tournament in Rolla, MO.
The camp will serve as the beginning of the evaluation process for choosing the athletes who will represent the USA in the 2012 International Softball Federation junior men’s world championship in Parana, Argentina.

The second annual Over the Edge will be held on Oct. 1 at the beautiful Four Seasons Hotel at Lumiere Place.
Be one of up to 100 to rappel off a significant (in height, that is) building in St. Louis for the athletes of Special Olympics Missouri!  All proceeds from this year’s event will benefit training and competition for the 3,600 Special Olympics Missouri athletes in the St. Louis Metro Area.
